![]() Biography: Albert R. Tetrault
Albert R. Tetrault is Chairman of the Innovative Strategies Group, a Management Consulting firm. He leads the group and conducts client engagements to help organizations bring their growth into focus. Al's business experience and expertise is in helping companies develop and implement plans for revenue growth and profitability, including the development of sales, marketing, financial and operation plans. Al is the former President and CEO of Electronic Commerce Systems, Inc. (ECS). ECS is an early stage company engaged in business-to-business (B2B) electronic commerce. ECS developed and sells e-commerce capability using the Application Service Provider (ASP) business model. Al transformed the company into a business services company, moving computer applications from PC technology to the Internet. The company's revenue increased over 60% while becoming profitable with positive cash flow over 18 months. In an earlier assignment, Al led a $20 million specialty chemical firm to growth and profitability over 15 months. This subsidiary of a publicly traded company needed senior leadership to reduce costs and restore profitability, and sales leadership to acquire additional distribution for its products. Closing a remote plant and emphasis on reducing expenses restored profitability. Operating efficiencies led to revenue per employee growth of 26% in 15 months. Sales were expanded through a newly recruited sales representative organization and a direct sales contract with the industry's largest distributor. Al has also served as President & CEO of a publicly traded, entrepreneurial technology firm and led it out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, achieving profitability for the first time since it's founding. He re-negotiated a key, five year Parts and Supply Contract with a major Japanese vendor. Al developed and implemented plans to rebuild the dealer organization, sell the inventory, and license the technology to others. He licensed the technology to a major Japanese manufacturer. Achieved profitability and increased market valuation of the firm 82% in 12 months. For 21 years, he served Digital Equipment Corporation in several senior management positions in field sales, marketing, service, and operations. As the Managing Director in Moscow, he developed the first sales, marketing, and support plan for Russia. Some of the challenges in Russia were the development of processes for order administration, export control compliance, and equipment/service delivery. Other assignments included US Manager selling products and services through marketing partners to the Telecommunications Industry and leading the field organizations for sales and service in the Southeastern US. Prior to joining Digital Equipment Corporation, he sold mainframe computers for IBM. He has served as a USAF pilot and Aircraft Commander flying C-130's. A Vietnam veteran, Al earned the Bronze Star and several Air Medals for his service in Southeast Asia. He is now an Aircraft Commander with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, flying missions for the Department of Homeland Security. He is an FAA Certificated Flight Instructor who operates a Beech A-36 Bonanza (N278G), and a pilot with Angel Flight. Al earned an MBA (cum laude) at the Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics at the University of Connecticut. He studied international business at the London Business School and IMEDE (Switzerland). He is now an Adjunct Professor at Flagler College in St. Augustine (FL), teaching undergraduate business courses. Al has served on the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Society of International Business Fellows, the Harvard Business School Club and Electronic Commerce Systems (ECS). He is a former member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and the Business and Technology Alliance (B&TA), serving on its Board of Directors in 1993-1994. An active runner, he has completed the Marine Corps (‘87, ‘95) and New York City (‘88, ‘90) marathons, as well as 17 consecutive Peachtree Road Races (10K). In October 1999, Al and his son Rob climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Al is married to the former Helen Ann O'Gorman. They have two adult children, May and Rob. May is married and the mother of Madison Ruth-Ann (Moss) and has studied at Kennesaw State University. Rob is the founder of Complete Scapes, a landscape design and maintenance company in Marietta (GA), and a student pilot.
